Best Kitchen Appliances for a Healthy Lifestyle


The best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle involves not just buying the "right" foods and working out consistently. To achieve a healthy lifestyle, it's important to be conscious of how your foods are prepared. 

    Let's face it- when you go out to eat, the menu doesn't exactly give you a list of ingredients.

And unless you ask for one, you're never 100% positive on the complete nutritional information of what's being put into your body.        
       That's the advantage of cooking from home: Not only does it save you money, it saves you a whole lot of unnecessary calories and fat that can sneak into menu items.  

Here is a list of what I believe to be the best appliances you should stock your kitchen with in order to achieve  the healthiest lifestyle.

Food Scales and Measuring Cups  

Don't cook unprepared! Be armed with a reliable food scale, like this one, that comes with a removable bowl on top. This will keep you from adding in unwanted calories unknowingly! Measuring Cups are excellent, as well, as they help deter the same problem. Check out this sweet measuring cup I recently discovered that acts as both a scale and for liquid and dry measure. Pretty cool, right? 

Cookware Set 

I LOVE my Cuisinart cookware set - and bought it for a decent price, too.I beat these up every day, considering I rarely go out to eat, and make a lot of meals at home. I have had this set for a full year now, and love the resiliency of this brand.

Slow Cooker

The slow-cooker is an excellent tool for those of us who more often than not have little time for cooking. Slow cookers, or "Crock Pots," are usually very inexpensive and take up little room in the kitchen. They also are a great time saver. 

Once you have your main ingredients ready, which usually include a meat, barley or rice, and vegetables, just add some appropriate seasonings and set the temperature. Flavor is locked into the meal, and the health value of most recipes is greatly increased which means less calories and fat. 

Food Steamers are also an effective appliance for saving calories when preparing food. Since food does not come into direct contact with the water or any oils, such as when boiling or frying, essential nutrients within the food are not lost. Steamers can cook a wide variety of foods including fish, chicken, vegetables, eggs and rice. Some new brands of steamers take up little room on the kitchen counter, and can even cook one, two, and sometimes three different foods all at once.

Blenders are also a great investment for your healthy kitchen. For a quick and filling breakfast or midday snack, protein shakes can be made easily and taste great when blended with Skim Milk and fresh or frozen fruit. Blenders are easily stored and cleaned, and can be a creative addition to a healthy diet.

Hot Air Popcorn Popper

These are are perfect for late night snacking. When made without oil or butter, homemade popcorn has around 23 calories in one cup- with absolutely no fat. While I often encourage clients to eat popcorn when they feel hungry at night, it is important to keep in mind that microwave brands of popcorn  are often packed in saturated coconut or palm oil. Even the so called "light" microwave versions derive 45 percent of their calories from fat. Another example of why it's important to read nutritional labels carefully.

Coffee and Tea - Keurig 

I know not everyone is a coffee/caffeine junky, but being able to quickly make your own Green Tea is a must when trying to live a healthy lifestyle and clean eating. K-Cups now come in tons of tea flavors, and many of them you can make iced tea versions for hot days!

I have all you mention cooking appliances. I have also Ice fruit pitcher. These appliances are really helpful to make healthy food.
