Have a Healthy Breakfast to Kickstart Your Day

The first meal of the day can be the most important one.
 Not only does breakfast kick
start your digestive system , it sets up your body's fuel source for the day.

Making sure you get the best source of nutrients in your body after waking up creates a healthy balance. While many people don't particularly like breakfast foods, it's been clinically proven that skipping this meal can actually make you gain weight. Why? Because when you starve yourself in the morning and don't "fuel up," you end up eating more calories later in the day to make up for those lost nutrients.

Don't become a victim of this mindless "diet plan" of leaving out breakfast. Fill up in the morning with some of our Trainer's Picks- some of the best meal ideas for feeling full, getting the nutrients your body craves, and helping you stick to your healthy lifestyle goals.

If you're in a rush in the mornings, like most people, and don't have time to sit and eat, try preparing a smoothie. Smoothies are a quick meal that can be taken on the run, and don't sacrifice flavor for nutrients. The best part of Smoothies is that they're easily customizable. You can get your dairy, protein, and fruit all in one serving! Try mixing 1/2 cup of Skim Milk, 1 tablespoon of Whey Protein Powder and 1/2 cup of mixed Frozen Berries. Smoothies also make a cool and light meal in the summer time.

If it's cold outside, and you're sick of eating the same whole grain cereals, try a Low Sugar Oatmeal- mix with warm Skim Milk and add your favorite Dried or Frozen Fruit. Adding a teaspoon of  flaxseed and crushed walnuts gives a crunchy flavor while adding Omega-3 Fats and Fiber. Adding in a handful of Dried Cranberries can also add flavor and antioxidants.

If you need a new twist to your breakfast with lots of protein and some vegetables- try making an Eggwhite Flatbread Sandwich. Skip the fast food version, and make your own in 5 minutes by heating Liquid Eggwhites in the microwave for 3 minutes with freshly chopped vegetables (Try white onion, red and green peppers, and mushrooms- or a mixture of your own creation!)  Place on a toasted slice of flatbread and serve warm.

Another idea for getting your much needed fiber and fruit is toasting a whole wheat waffle, piece of toast, or pancake. Try adding a few teaspoons of drizzled Honey and your favorite Jam in place of butter and a cup of your favorite Berries. Sprinkle with Flaxseed, and Enjoy.
