Surf Yoga! at Fuse Yoga

 How would you like this to be your gym 
for the next 60 minutes?

Some of my favorite yoga buddies - Jess and Nicole - invited me to try out a new kind of workout that I had only read about..... Yoga Surfing!

I had no idea what I was getting myself into at Fuse Yoga - which has the awesome title of BEST IN NEW HAMPSHIRE FOR 2013 Yoga Instructor - Shout out to Nicole Detellis  :) And once you meet her, it's easy to see why she received this title.

Nicole is so welcoming, warm and friendly. She immediately greeted me at the door and made me feel comfortable. I loved Nicole's down to earth style, and this translated into her yoga teaching. 

The lights were turned down low, the air was infused with calming aromatherapy, and the music was playful and reminded me of summer. For 60 minutes, we forgot about the 20 degree chill outside and warmed up on our surfboards. 

My yoga sidekick Nicole LoPresti, aka "@adventure_yogi" (whom you should check out on Instagram - she's a rock star), immediately began to laugh as we attempted basic Tadasana Pose (that means just basic standing in Sanskrit). Our boards began to react to our bodies, and we were forced to engage our cores to keep balanced. 

The class went through a vinyasa flow of downward dogs and stretches - all with the added challenge of "riding the waves." There was a good variety of basic and difficult poses- like side plank, and even crow pose! 

I was actually able to manage crow after a few attempts

By the way- If you think you know how to do balance or do inversions in yoga pretty well, try doing them on a waving surfboard- HECK YEAH.

Needless to say, Nicole Detellis from Fuse Yoga has an AMAZING space, and she puts it to good use. Fuse also offers gloYoga, Yin Yoga, Ninja Yoga, and Zumba with Yoga. They also offer workshops frequently through out the year- even a Yoga at the Vineyard series!  How cool is that?
This is truly a unique studio with something for everyone.

Like I've said before, fitness should be well-rounded and fun. It feels amazing to mix things up and try out different workouts in your strength training routine. Yoga offers such a great compliment of flexibility, balance, and restoration for our hectic lifestyles.
